Belleville Competition

To start off day 1 of qualification matches, we were surprised to find that our climber was not working. For the controls, the climber was completely manual because we were unable to get the automatic controls working due to time. With the manual controls, time was a big issue. The third level climb would work in practice because we would have unlimited time, but once we got on the playing field, we were rushed and then just couldn't get it up. However, by the end of the competition, we decided to try out our second level climb instead. We were happy to see that we could get the second level up much easier and faster. Also, we are a hatch bot. We were able to place on all three levels of the rocket, but never actually tested the third, and could also place on the cargo ship. Our camera during this competition was not working and we had no visual during sandstorm and it made lining up difficult, which we felt was really setting us back. However, we managed to make our way to 12th place out of 40 teams and were captains of the 8th seated alliance along with 3770 and 3875. In playoffs, we decided to play defense. Our robot is quite heavy and has a good base for pushing robots, so we were excited to see what would happen. During our defense, we focused on making team 5050, Cow town, unable to score as best that we could. We stopped them from scoring several times and made it hard for them to line up throughout the playoffs. We did well and at the end of the day, a cow town member even told us we had some amazing defense skills. Our very last playoff match was a memorable one. During sandstorm, the camera lag was intense which caused the driver to go too quickly and not be able to stop in time before ramming the cargo ship. This crash caused our 3D printed claw to break into several pieces. Luckily we were doing defense, so the claw wasn't needed anyway, but we have to fix it for next competition! We did not win quarterfinals or get any awards, but we are very proud of how well we did on the field and our overall teamwork.
