Ann Arbor Pioneer Competition: Day 2 of matches and awards

After we got to Pioneer High School, we immediately had to start queuing for match 52, the first one of the day. All of our matches went pretty good and we had no major problems. When all the qualification matches were over, one representative from each team went and stood out by the field to begin alliance picking. At the time we were ranked 10th of out all 40 teams, but after a few of the top 8 teams who picked each other, we moved up to alliance 6th and were our own alliance captain. We ended up picking teams 5603 (Rise of the Warrior Bots) and 1502(Technical Difficulties) to be in our alliance. Our first match of quarterfinals did not go nearly as planned. When the drive team was setting up for the match, they noticed the piece that connects the laptops to the controller had been left behind, so of course, in a panic they started looking everywhere and attempted to try to get the volunteers/judges to hold off on starting the match for a minuet or two. Sadly, the match had to start, the only person there when autonomous was going was head driver Joshua Salkeld, but co-driver Arianna Bressler made it just in time to witness how they had no connecting to the robot. We lost that match, 305 to 117. When it was time for our next quarterfinal match, we knew if we lost this, we would be done competing. During the match, our robot was working good and everything seemed to be going okay, but the score was pretty much tied until the last 30 seconds when our robot decided now would be the time when our climber wouldn't connect to the rope. We also lost that one, 280 to 167. Even though we were disappointed, we knew ranking 10th was still amazing. Now, heading off to watch the award ceremony, we all sat together and applauded each team who received an award. We didn't get an award this time, but we were still very happy with our results of this weekend!
